2.0d v50/s40 2009
Hi,
Not long purchased a 2009 V50 R Design. As much as I love the car, I’ve always been a bit wary of these engines. It’s only got 73k on it, but I know these are the Peugeot lumps and heard a few horror stories about them. Is there anything common I should look out for on these? I’ve already had the flywheel let go on me and had that and the clutch replaced! Given it a good look over and surprisingly not much of any oil leak yet. Apart from a tiny one at the mainside gasket. I’ve always owned petrol so struggling to get used to noises and knockings of a diesel engine’ |

There is no need to worry.... just keep it serviced at the right time and with the correct oil and it should be fine. Actually these engines can stand a fair amount of neglect but if you do that you will increase the risk of a failure.
There are several members on here with cars with that engine that are well beyond 200k with no major issues. The main issues with these engines in the S40/V50 is the crappy Ford starter motors and alternators that tend to give up between 100k and 150k.
