Default Non red Volvo engines

I have just seen an Amazon with a twin carb engine that is painted a light blue/greenish. I'm sure it is original paint. Was this perhaps one of the Laplander spare engines that were knocking about a few years ago. A nice quiet engine which goes well but a bit oily due to valve cover leaks.
Any ideas?
Many years ago I saw some yellow B16 heads which I think were Penta parts.

That sounds like a military head that I saw a few years ago, from a snowcat? I think..sort of a duck egg blue colour almost. That head had one valve recessed iirc to differentiate it from a 'normal' B18 head.

Whoops, yes I wrote Laplander and actually meant Snow-Cat. Tony Barrett had a batch of these engines and as the previous owner of this car had it for 32 years in London it may well have had a transplant. I'll research further. Apparently "Noddy" who worked with Tony has also worked on the car. Does Noddy still have a workshop? If so, where?

Kay, early PV engines, B14 models were a mid shade of green.

Yes Tony did have a supply of ex military 2.0 litre engines, originally destined for snow cats or Laplanders. They were all light blue colour, with, if I remember correctly a different sump on them,we always had to change the sump when transplanting them into amazons.Hope this helps,Dave.

Thanks David. I will have to have a look again at this engine to see if it is a B20.
Yes these engines had a deep sump and used an extension tube on the oil pump down to the pick-up. This to cope with the extreme angles they might have to cope with. This could be a B18 as the early Laplander L3314 had this.
