VOC Motor Sport Speed Challenge 2006
Keith Wilson published the following interesting information on the Motor Sport Speed Challenge in the latest Driver magazine. I thought that forum members would find this information interesting so I have reproduced his article here! I hope to compete in the Speed Challenge myself!
Iain Collinson Administrator Performance Car Register Keeper Why not come and join in some good friendly grass roots motor sport, come and compete on the Volvo Owners Club Motor Sport Speed Challenge in 2006. Any Volvo can compete and providing you are a VOC member, it will cost you nothing to enter in the challenge. We compete in Hill Climbs and Sprint meetings run by responsible motor clubs to Motor Sports Assiciation rules and also in Historic car rallies again runby responsible motor clubs to MSA rules. We compete fot the Scott Wyeth Memorial Steering Wheel trophy in the Overall Speed Challenge. We also run a Speed Challenge and a rally Chalenge for entrants who use their car for one discipline. All the challenges have very worthwhile trophies for the successful drivers at the year's end and are presented at our Annual Prize giving. What do I need may you say? Well firstly a Volvo and then some enthusiasm, a little expense to purchase a MSA Competition license. You will need a crash helmet and overalls for the speed event. The car needs minimal preparation in order to comply with the event regulations. Want more detail
Somewhat intrigued by the listing in the Driver I was about to e-mail Keith Wilson as one of the next events is very much on my patch. However just in hope rather than expectation, typed in Ilkley Historic rally and bingo up came a web site with all the details!
No doubt the same will occur for most of the list.

The link is the first post should be => http://www.acsmc.org.uk/
Does the VOC have it's own class or does everyone just fit into the normal classes structure? It would be interesting to see how an S60 D5 would fair against the Pug 205s and Civic VTis that normally run in the 1400-2000cc class. |

Since any Volvo can compete, I'll hopefully be joining the Challenge in a 360 with some mild suspension tweaks and a decent set of tyres. We'll see how it goes from there...
...should be fun! Ed |

Hughes Rally
Well, I've just joined the forum, and spent the last few hours absorbing various goings-on. After stumbling over this thread I thought I'd mention that I'm planning an entry on the Hughes Rally in June. (Note that the date has been moved to the 4th of June from 28th May). My entry forms are in the post....
Anyone else thinking about joining me? Cheers Damon |
