Default alarm need a service

acording to my driver info it is telling me my alarm systen needs servecing dose this need to be done at a main dealers or can we do it our selfs hubby is a macanic but he said he may not be able to do this part what will need to be done or could it be disabled tot or not car is a 2001 V70XC

If it turns out to be knackered alarm siren as mentioned by S60 above, i would recommend you contact Simon [Rufe on this forum] at FRF Volvo,- Swansea. Save yourself a few quid.

the siren is fine i have never heard it going off but i am sure that my mate said they had somethink done to the alarm but i am not sure i could be wrong all it is doing is telling me on the dash alarm system need servecing
dose the alarm system need to be on the car or could we remove it

Lock car on key fob remotely by pressing the button "lock" leave it for a few inutes then open the drivers door with the key in the lock... Alarm siren should go mental... If not and just flashing indicators... Then you need a new alarm siren, about 120 quid from volvo.

This is a very common fault on these cars of this sort of age. If it is on the way out, you'll more than likely start getting the 'ALARM TRIGGERED' message on your display. You wont hear the alarm, but the indicators will flash, and probably keep flashing until you disable the alarm.

no i have never heard the alarm going and in the 2 mts i have had it the message has only ever said alarm system need serviceing when i lock or unlock the car the lights flash and thats it if the cats jump on the car nothink happens the red light on the top ov the dash flashes but thats it i have never heard the siren going ither

If you have a hand book, i'm sure it tells you how to set the alarm off in there.
