Default Scratched screen. Cause and repair.

Driving into low sun earlier today I noticed slight scratching on the windscreen to the right of my sightline about half way up and close to the a pillar. I can only assume it's from the blade fixing as it flexes on the return stroke. Try as I would with the wipers in the maintenance position I couldn't get the blade to flex sufficently to make contact between the clip holding the rubber and the screen. Sorry, can't explain it any clearer. The blades are original (22k miles) and 3 years old in a few days. The car goes into Volvo on Wednesday for service, first MOT and final checkover under warranty. Although the present blades seem(ed) perfect I have new ones to fit but they're at home 75 miles away. Unfortunatly I HAVE to go home tomorrow morning and it looks like rain/wind. I accept that both new blades and repair of the scratch are down to me but does anyone else have experience of a similar problem. If so how did you get scratches polished out? They are very light!

I turned my auto wipers memory setting off because they had a habit of doing one dry swipe of the screen when starting the engine first start of the day and screen is getting fine scratches, I put this down to dust or dried overnight moisture being detected.

Haven't had an issue with windscreen scratches personally, but could then be caused by scraping ice off in the colder months?

Perhaps have a go at them with a machine polisher, might work with fine compound and pad.

What ice? A benefit of retirement is that when it's frosty one goes back to bed. Seriously, the scratching follows the arc of the wiper sweep.

I wouldnt go for machine polishing, could end up much worse, but also note that they prob wont fail the MOT

If its the type of scratches im thinking about and if it bothers you at night, spend the £70 screen excess and get it replaced, prob far cheaper than a screen machine polish, they can take a long time when done right, i used to do them for a deflett company along with other Smart Repairs, that before i became a PDR tech
