940 oil
My volvo 940 16v has done 180,000 miles and is overdue an oil and filter change. Is it worth putting some 15/40 oil in as the engine will now have quite a bit of wear in it? Ive been given a 25litre barrel if it. The cams rattle as the engines warming up. I think its the cams anyway, could be the hydraulic tappets. Perhaps the thicker oil would quieten things down a bit? RE: 940 oil
I have not got the answer apart from use the best you can afford.
On that note I use Mobile 1 Synthetic (0W-40) in my car and it seems OK, in the old one I used Mobil S semi and this worked fine aswell, I changed it in that one every 5K but not now due to fancier Oil and lesser milage I stick to 10K. Oil is relatively cheap and good stuff for the engine should give it the best possible 'life'. To you all out there what about oil spec in general, Volvo Specify 10-30 in most cases , am I going over the top with my oil in the LPT ??? All the best
