Default Why is my Volvo V90 pulling to the right?

Hello I was wandering if anyone out there could help?
My newly aquired 60K R reg V90 3.0 se has just had is tracking done which works great at a slower speed, but going faster it veers to the right. The car also suffers from vibration at certain higher speeds as well. The tyres are not great - economy ones put on by previous seller and are badly worn on the left hand side where i have had to compensate. I am about to get 4 brand new tyres which I hope will rectify the problem. I have read some articles posted, and fear the front brushes may have gone?

Any thoughts then on: 1) possible causes 2) what tyres should i get?

3) does anyone know exact geometry settings?

Thanks,

Jan Stapley :(

hopefully its worn components, doesnt sound like its had a sympathetic previous owner, however accident damage could give you similiar problems best bet get a four wheel alignment done at a reputable garage to check the car is not bent

As pozzy says the wheel alignment has to be done on all four wheels as your car has independent rear suspension. The wheels should all be 43mm offset instead of the 25mm offset (up to 1994 MY) as the suspension is very similar to the 850 setup. The setting of symetrical camber for the rear wheels and toe-in for both front and rear should be done by a garage with the correct measuring equipment and special tools. I should think that the symmetry of the camber angles has been put out. This can be due to tyres with odd wear patterns being put onto the car.

The wheels are either 15" steel or 15" or 16" aluminium the. The particular wheels fitted may need extra adjustment.

I should try "Corsa" tyres of the appropriate profile for the wheels fitted to your car (make sure that all wheels are the same and not 25mm offset). For example my car has Corsa 65 tyres size 195/65/15 fitted. You may find that that size (but to suit your wheel rim size) or perhaps 205/55 (as a maximum size for the 16" wheels).

All the best, Peter.

1. Tracking - but get it done properly :-)

2. Pirelli P6000s are recommended by many - have them on my 940 saloon (205/55/16s) - BUT they have a rounded profile and don't last so long on a car that scrubs off tyre edges on full lock (i.e. 940/960/V90!) I have Dunlop SP2000s on my 940 turbo estate (again 205/55/16s) and they seem OK - they have a squarer tread section - although they are definitely noisier than the Pirellis. P6000s are on offer at the moment - about 15% discount :-)

Actully, the best tyres I've had on my 940s were Korean - WooSung Black Horse - excellent performance, quiet and lasted twice as long!

hope this helps
Simon
