2.3 16v question (s)
I'd appreciate some answers to a few probably silly questions about the 16 valve engine -
1. Some people say that it is less reliable than the 8v - any particular reason why? I know the 8v is not an interference engine, and that the 16v is, but are there any other reasons/things to be wary of? 2. Does the 16v engine have hydraulic valves? 3. What is the power output of the 16v? Many thanks,

RE: 2.3 16v question (s)
The 16v has hydraulic tappets, From memory I think it produces 160BHP I think it uses the same block and bottom end from the 2.3 8 valve. Not sure about the reliability problems though. Aslong as the oil and coolant are changed regularly, and the cambelt is changed when its meant to be theyre meant to be ok. The only thing ive heard about is the balancing shafts breaking, or the oil pump sprocket bolt shearing, both are driven by the cambelt and if they go, total the engine. Tim |
