What the ???? alarm

I recently posted about my 92 940S alarm, well on closer examination it has two ultrasonic sensors in the dash, and on checking on Vadis, the components ( that I have managed to find !!! ) look awfully similar too what is called Alarm Immobiliser on RHD on a 440/460 of 1991 vintage. Is it possible that the initial dealer retrofitted one of these alarms into the car YV1945273N2035681. Can anybody point me in the right direction for info/instructions for these alarms, please ?

The 1992 940S only had central locking as standard. However it is possible that it was ordered with Alarm/Immobiliser from factory. It is possible to order equipment extra to standard fit at a higher cost than standard price (you pay for any extra specification parts/items).

I had a rummage under the dash etc and it has on the passenger side underneath the glove box a volvo branded little box with adjustment screw, connected to the two ultra sonic sensors mounted into the dash. They are both next to the air vents. I also have a LED fitted in a switch blank next to rear demister switch. Whilst under the old dash panels I came across a little box, underneath steering column. Volvo 3533161 which has 14 pins and a 5? pin DIN connecter. I tried tracing the black lead from the din connector but as the car is my daily driver had to put it all back again until my next days off.
I have tested the alarm and it seems to work, open the doors,bonnet etc and it goes off...unfortunately my only measns off switching it off and on is via the key that fits in the siren unit fitted in the engine bay.

I'll keep you posted on what I find.

You have found the radio amplifier unit (hence the DIN connector). I have only come across one other alarm unit such as you describe. It was fitted to my 760 and had been disconnected as the siren speaker had rusted and seized. Needless to say I removed it and all connections and just left it as central locking. If you can spend some time in a scrapyard with Volvos in it you may well find a VolvoGuard alarm unit. The sounder is usually a horn mounted on the passenger side strut tower. If you find one I will let you know how to get the manual for it and how it should be connected up. You will need a key fob unit as well.

Thanks Peter, I have got a local scrappy who has two 940's in, I'll check them on my next visit. If not as I live in Central Scotland, I have heard there is a breaker in Denny who specialises in Volvos so I will check them out.
