Default 940 Estate Petrol Cap...

Just in case it can help anyone else, I've just had to source a new petrol cap for my 1995 940 2.3 SE LPT Estate. The below item from Euro Car Parts is a perfect fit and comes with two keys...

https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/334660110

Euro Car Parts also seem to have a never ending range of discount codes available, I only paid £22 for mine, not the advertised price. A lot of used items on ebay etc were the same price.

Car is still going very nicely, picture (hopefully) attached...

I think you can still get genuine Volvo ones for about that price, at least you could 3-4 years ago when i last asked. If the pic on ECP is correct though, that looks to be OE quality (think the originals were Waso) although a slightly different shape.

I did try Volvo first and I was told they were no longer available now.

The ECP picture was slightly wrong, the actual cap does look exactly the same shape on top as the original! Very odd, but I'm quite happy with that!

That's intersting, it never used to be possible to get an aftermarket one that looked the same as the original.

Have you got a photo of the new cap at all?

Thanks, certainly very similar - i like the extra ridges along the side of the centre part for grip, my paws often slip while trying to tighten/loosen mine.

I know Volvo only made black caps (for all models) at the end, mine still has a green cap and i'd really like to preserve that as long as possible but i am considering renewing the cap because it just doesn't feel right anymore as it's being done up.

I was a bit miffed when the lock on the green cap on my 745 went wrong in the days when I had the car serviced at the local main dealer.

They replaced it with a black one which was always the original alternative for diesel engined cars. I had some old touch-up paint for a green 244DL I once owned and painted the cap green. The cap is now a mixture of black and worn off green paint!

I've had a couple of 740s with a red cap - normal leaded 100 octane aka real petrol. Last one had a green cap as does this 760. Diseasels as you rightly say had the black cap but eventually Volvo just made the black one standard regardless.

Maybe if you use some plastic primer before painting it bright green again it will last longer, especially if you clear lacquer it too!
