Default Replacement Heating Control Valve

I have been trying to fix a leak on my 740 and found it’s due to a faulty Heater Control Valve. I have been looking online for the part and apparently you cannot buy them new anymore, and anything from Europe is about 60 euro delivery charge and it’s for left hand drive.

I have asked a couple of breakers if they have the part, but do I have any other options? Someone on the FB group mentioned a work around, but unsure how that would work.

Anyone know where I can buy a replacement or advise a fix?

I think somewhere there's a thread on using the Golf valve, it's fairly easy to change them over.
When i say "fairly easy" that's fairly easy as far as fitting strange parts to any car. As long as it's closed when minimum temperature is selected and opens up as the temperature is increased, you'll be fine.

Thanks. I'll dig around and see if I can find that thread.

I have reached out to a couple of people breaking 740's so hopefully that brings some luck.

For the price (inc free P&P) you may as well fit a new one that shouldn't have only a few years left. The thread on fitting them might be for the 940 but the manual heater on both the 7 & 940 is pretty much the same in that area

Top man. Just been reading the thread and seems straightforward enough. I'll get it ordered and attempt it at the weekend.

This is a link to a post from Bob12, (originally in 2006, I think but also last year) go down to #16 for pictures and instructions from earlier post. Thanks again Bob.

"If this link works you will see the post I put up re the Golf Mk 1 heater valve work around. Bob "

Dave has already posted the link to the valve. Thanks Dave
As the other guys have said, please take pictures and let us know how you get on.
Hope this helps. Mike

This is another old post but an update as I think the Heater Control Valve issue is always of interest.
Sorry to say, but I am unable to do the work myself in the last couple of months, my friend put it in so I have no details of the job really. Except to say it is from a Toyota Corolla, TBH, I do not know where he got it, he said it required a slight mod on the fitting inside the bulk head but apart from that was easy to fit. Fitted perfect to the hose once turned as per the photo.
See link for new valve picture , https://www.kagulhafiel.com/index.ph...ducts_id=31615
again sorry for American site, but surely available in UK ???

It works perfectly in mine, it is in now for about a month, well tried and tested in that time, very strong, no leaks of any description inside or outside the car, so far so good.
I know I am short on detail but I think it is nice to have an alternative option especially if you are prepared to make slight mods.

I hope this helps.

Take Care,
Mike
