2005 S60r
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and I have found a ton of good information here. I just bought my first Volvo, 2005 S60R, and I am wondering how damaging to the car is doing the PPC upgrade to get to 350+hp and 380+ lb torque? I guess there is a chip and a PPC that connects to the computer. Or should I send out the computer? I am trying to get another 50 - 80 hp but only if the engine can take it for 4 years or so. I do have a heavy foot and like to drive hard.
Suggestions? Is the computer upgrade 100% safe? |

The R engine does respond well to upgrades, but always best to do the research first. The first thing is your car under warranty? Even if it is a CPO warranty. If so Volvo Car of America are pretty anal about mods that can cause problems. Usually they point the finger at the ECU even if the failure was related to something else e.g. transmission. Secondly there are a number of reputable and not so reputable ECU upgrade providers out there. Don Kalmar Union is one highly recommended here. You can also Google a few others such as ipd, Rica Viva etc. Thirdly there will always be the weak points with the R. The transmission if you have an Auto you will have torque limiting applied in the first few gears. The angle gear part of the drive train that sends the power to the back wheels The secondary intercooler of a pretty average design and best replaced with a front mount intercooler if you want decent performance in warmer weather. Not to mention other mods such as aquamist & so on. So before you tip money into any projects make sure you do your research & like what you are doing now! The opinions of others certainly help. Good luck |

Congrats on your new ride. It seems you are based in the States. If so IPD seem to be the best guys that side of the pond. Also have a look a look at swedespeed.com as that has a really active R forum. Lots of Rs in the USA 'cos they're so much cheaper than here in the UK.
