RE: Eibach Springs
Nigel,
I am currently considering which springs to put on my 850 estate. How much do Eibach's lower the car by and, if possible, it would be great if you can email a pic of your car with springs fitted! Many thanks, |

RE: Eibach Springs
Hi Phil,
The Eibachs lower the car by 30mm all round. After speaking to a few people, and using past experience, I have decided that the Eibach springs are the ONLY springs to use. Most other manufacturers lower the car by 40mm, which is too much for the shocks. This I found out from Demon Tweeks, who told me that their boss had a T5 with -40mm and Bilsteins, the shocks lasted no time.I also had a chat with Steve and Tim at Formula cars, in Wellington, and they recommended the Eibachs. The real beauty of these springs is that they are actually developed for the car you are putting them on, they come with certificates of conformity and TUV approval in the box.I have fitted lower springs to cars in the past, and they have been too hard, and fall out of their seatings every time you jack the car up !!!!. If you want to fit new springs Phil, fit Eibachs. You wont be dissapointed!!:7 Nigel |

Nige, what were the fitting costs? I assume you don't have a spring compressor lying around!
Is the ride a lot harder now? Cheers |

RE: Eibach Springs
Nigel,
Many thanks for the info. Had previously been adcised to go for 30mm rather than 40mm and Eibachs sound like the ones to invest in. Do you have a pic of your now, lowered car as this would be the decider? Many thanks, |

RE: Eibach Springs
I fitted the springs myself. Took about an Hour and a Half, front and back. All you need is a trolley jack, pair of axle stands,15,17 and 18mm sockets,9 and 16mm open ended spanners and a 22mm ring spanner oh yes, and a pair of spring compressors.
Just be sure to mark the position of the upright to strut mounting before you undo the bolts, as you may have a lot of clearance around the bolts to aid camber adjustment. I will post a photo if someone can tell me how, and when I can borrow my girlfriends digital camera!! Well.....just need some 17" rims now to finish it off. Nigel 96 850T5 Estate:D |

RE: Eibach Springs
Nige,
i went to Wheel Mania in Birmingham to get some advice on lowering my T5 estate, they suggested PI springs which lowers the car by 40mm, they reckon this set-up is ideal, with a not to harsh a ride, no rubbing and no poppong out of springs when u jack the car up. They can supply the springs for £120 and about £50 for installation |

RE: Eibach Springs
They probably suggested PI springs because they sell them!!
After being advised by Formula cars,(Volvo Specialists),and Demon Tweeks, (speaking from experience within their company), that 40mm was too much, I decided to go for 30mm instead. I used to have PI springs on a Punto, and they didn't fall out of their seats when jacked up, but they did rattle in their seats when going over bumpy surfaces. You pays your money and takes your choice, and no, I'm in no way connected with Eibach!!:D Regards Nigel |

RE: Eibach Springs
Arshad,
Not that you will doubt Nigels advice at all but I have read on many occasions that 40mm springs cause an 850 to rub! Hence I think I will be taking the Eibach (30mm) route! |
