Default ABS and Traction warning lights

I have aquired a 1998 V70R - in Saffron of course - and have been very pleased with it. Recently the ABS and Traction lights have been coming on whilst driving, and not going off until the vehicle has been stopped, left a short time and run out again. Lights go off at about 15mph, then may not come on again for a few days. Had problems with MOT, until lights were reset by local independant Volvo dealer by connecting to vehicle computer system. Still the problem persists, and I am not willing to let the dealer have a free hand at trying to fix the problem. Has anyone had similar problems? What was the cure? Can I access the fault codes to check myself? Any local specialists in Herts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ah well, if you've got a car in Saffron, you will get problems...:-)

But seriously, it sounds like a possible faulty connection or failing sensor - I hope it isn't the ABS control unit, because that's expensive.

Surely the Volvo independent had a look at the fault codes? If not, then you may have to go back and check, or get a Haynes manual for a comprehensive list of codes including the ABS ones.

You'll find most of the codes you want if you use search on this forum and if you're a club member, you can get a list of local Volvo non-franchise specialists in your area from the restricted area in the site.

THought I was alone on this!

Ok I get in the car and sometimes the light is on. I turn off and on again after moving the car. the light eventually goes out. then sometimes I am pulling the car up to stop and the abs kicks in and makes that grinding noise that they do. At least mine does. then if it does that enough the Abs and tRACS LIGHT COMES ON and stays on till u turn the car off.

Personally I don't give a f*** anymore. Volvos are seriously cool and if u get upset about every little thing like brake failure, u r missing the point. Just jump in, turn on and enjoy. if the brakes give up, you've got an airbag right, and ur insured? so whats ur problem. if ur really worried, just don't drive too fast.

Okay, rant over. Cant leave it on that note.

Had so many problems with my car but it still goes and I just don't think that worrying makes things better. My guess is a dodgy sensor that could do with replacing but they aint cheap so it can wait till I get my MOT.

Why?

Well you always get FU***D with no vasaline at MOT time so a few extra quid wont be felt as much.
