Default 3 quick turbo Qs

1) How does the boost gauge work.

I guess that modern ones have the ECU to blame, but how about older ones.

2) Can any of you guys post a link to a picture of the instrument panel from a T5 / an 850 with a boost gauge?

3) ditto, but for a 940 / 760 (with the one mounted beneath the rev counter). I have line drawings of these, but not photos...note to self...must get out more...

cheers

james

I can only comment for my 850 but think all are the same.
The boost pressure for the guage is read by ' anologue' means and not by the ECU.
The reading is taken from a vacume 'tree' just by the throttle body. the vacume/pressure is then taken by a vacume hose into the back of the guage.
What I describe as a tree is a post with about 4 connections for vacume line I think 2 are blanked off with rubber caps.

Very interesting - this was my suspicion. I have a 360, and you can get this very gizmo, under the guise of an econometer.

Will be funny telling the local nova owners that its a 'boost' gauge! I guess if I miss the turbo bit off then its not *too* much of a lie :)

Thanks Fraser!

Yes, the higher the vacuum reading the more economically the engine would be running, is how they worked. Little "blast from the past" there.

Your owners handbook should show you pictures of this.

All the best, Peter.
