Bobcat,
There are lots of things you don't know (LOL). We actually have 2 'software engineers' (mappers) in the UK, based at our premises in Bromsgrove. Which means you can have your Volvo custom mapped if you wish / need any day of any week on our state of art Dynojet 224xLC Rolling Road.

Regards,
Hamish.
P.S. We don't just map Volvo's.......

But as everyday passes i\we learn more and more - which is worrying for some.

Nice to see youve got some proper mappers in now then, nice of rica to supply them. Whats adam doing with himself now youve got in some mappers? havent seen him around much.

there you go chris, with the price basically equal i would probably go to the nearest place, as i mentioned all chips are pretty even.

Default MTE software upgrades; installation.

I would like to just cover again the method by which MTE software is installed in all Volvo and Ford vehicles.

With MTE, the ECU is never opened to facilitate the removal of the 'chip'.

On all models, with just one exception, the software is installed by connecting the ECU, unopened, to the equipment.

The one exception is with the old shape S and V40's where the installation is via the OBD socket.

Regards, Don.Norchi.

I do not understand why its considered to be important how the work is done or whether its visible or invisible.

I have a RICA ECU re-map and with the difference in performance they might as well have put a 100 stickers under the bonnet because anyone who drove it would realise in XX yards that it is way beyond a stock T5 in performance stakes.

It may be invisible but why would that be important?.

lets just say i dont want any physical clues that my car may have an ecu upgrade.

And more importantly, having done a 3 year degree in electronic engineering at Kent, I would rather my ecu wasnt re-soldered.

No doubt you have your reasons for concealment but I care not one iota who knows mine is chipped because I have it fully declared for insurance and tell everyone who works on it or drives it to expect way beyond normal T5 performance.

I don't think that a 3 year degree was necessary to know that soldering in close proximity to electronics can cause an excessive heat cycle degradation of the life cycle of electronics. I have heard of two chipping methods that solder piggy back chips or modules but was not aware that any of the three main contenders within this forum used such methods.

Indeed, that is the crux of the matter which I believe Don was trying to re-inforce. Given you have an interest, and do a fair bit of reading around all the various fora about ECU upgrades, but still did not know that RICA employ these methods, I think it is fair to say that there may be other forum members who also do not know what is involved in selected ECU upgrades. For the reasons which you have described, I do wonder whether companies who employ such tuning methods would openly disclose and warn customers about the potential risks involved.
