Thanks for the replies everyone! Stu, the more pics the better, car looks great! Is that denim blue?
I currently have a BMW 330e Pro Edition on order with virtually every option ticked but decided I actually want a 4x4 next and I’ve fancied a Volvo for a while. I can’t lie I’m a little disappointed with what I’ve read about the niggles with the facelift as I feel the systems are definitely scaled back. It seems Volvo dropped the ball a little in some areas. I can’t understand why you would remove paddle shifters and drive modes etc but perhaps it’s down to component availability who knows. The prospect of software updates is good but I would probably assume the worst that these won’t come for some time as I’ve heard it before with other manufacturers. I don’t think any of the flaws are enough to put me off the car though, I think it looks fantastic too. I have a test drive booked tomorrow in a T6 R Design Pro so will report back on my thoughts + pics! Cheers |

No worries, I’ll get a couple more taken tomorrow! It is Denim Blue, really glad I went for that colour, it really looks great imo!
The paddle shifters I don’t think you’ll miss, it isn’t a sports car or even attempting to be one, where BMW place their offering on dynamism and driver involvement, Volvos take is on the cabin environment and Scandinavian style. There is no hiding from the relaxed handling and lack of real feedback through the wheel, but that isn’t what I was looking for so isn’t a drawback, the way it drives I guess I would describe as effortless, and having paddle shifters wouldn’t add anything to the experience for me. I’ve heard about chip shortages but I think the shortcomings with the drive modes and various other things are just down to how new androids automotive operating system is. To be fair the navigation works, the voice commands are excellent, I can listen to music, and take calls. When I first got the car I was a bit disappointed about the lack of options available in settings, and that the driver display is obviously lacking some customisation and media display functionality, but in all honesty I haven’t really given any of that a 2nd thought, ive just enjoyed driving it! Hope the test drive goes well tomorrow! Enjoy! |

Had my test drive today, have detailed below my thoughts:
- Experience with the dealer not great. Nice sales guy (only been in the role couple weeks) but told they are running behind schedule when I get there, then told I only have 20mins or so in the car as their sales director has the car and is leaving soon. Great attitude towards customers from the manager… So bearing in mind very limited time with the car.. - Infotainment/Screens Having watched the video linked earlier and read up on things it is as expected. The general system seemed okay, it seems to do the job but I think general comments about the system overall are spot on in that there is definite room for improvement. My phone connected ok via Bluetooth and played songs wirelessly. The standard speaker set up in the car was also surprisingly good (I don’t believe it had the HK system as it would have said on the grills I think?) The drivers display is good overall but lacking big time in customisation and information. You can’t view media options for example and can just turn maps on or off. This is covered in the video though so won’t go into detail. - Wireless Charging / CarPlay I have an iPhone 12 Pro and the wireless charging would not work. The charging pad is also stupidly small. I don’t have the ‘Max’ (larger model iPhone) and my phone was overhanging the cup holder area. The charging pad is simply too small for most modern phones and ends up looking a bit naff that your phone doesn’t fit on the pad properly, not sure if this affected the charging but it shouldn’t have. There was no CarPlay, I was then told by the dealer this was a £300 optional extra that could be fitted after ordering, I questioned this as I don’t believe that is true and long story short I don’t think they were clued up. No info given on future updates or potential availability down the line either. - Engine & Drive Modes (T6 Hybrid) The engine feels good and was a selling point in my quick drive. It packs a punch (coming from a person used to driving 500bhp+ cars) and it’s quite cool that you can hear the supercharger whining when accelerating. There are also multiple drive modes selectable via the screen including Hybrid, Power, Pure (was not selectable for some reason), off road and AWD. There are no shift paddles as stated before however you can shift manually in ‘B Mode’. This involves shifting the gear lever left and right and to be honest I found it to be a little laggy compared to auto and couldn’t see it being used at all. The car seemed to corner quite well and rode nicely on the standard alloys, although this was an R Design Pro so I think had Air Suspension. - General Interior Quality I’ve no experience with Volvos in general and am used to newer Mercedes/BMW vehicles and have to say compared to ze Germans the interior is not on par in terms of overall quality and the feel of materials. It is fine though and isn’t bad, just lagging compared to other cars in the premium segment in my opinion. I’m not a fan of the black plastic around the screen and central controls, it gets covered in fingerprints and kind of feels cheap. The screen itself was fine, seemed responsive enough but again not as sharp as the latest from the competitors. It’s a shame you can’t spec the interior available in the Inscription as I think that really lifts the cabin compared to Black and greys too. - Exterior Great looking car and generally looks premium from the outside in my opinion. I’m a stickler for having big wheels so personally need to have the 21” alloys but appreciate that is subjective. There was another car adjacent with 22” alloys which looked great but they are massive! Overall I liked the car, some of the negatives are niggling me if I’m honest but at the moment I’m erring towards placing an order than not. The negatives are relatively minor stuff in the big picture, sometimes it’s the little things that add up to make a good car a great car, but I don’t think there’s enough to prevent me from ordering one. Im going to mull it over the next couple days. Some pics: |

The blue/grey car in the bottom pictures looks like a joke clown car with silly wheels.

The style and size of the wheel is reminiscent of the Matchbox die-cast toy cars of old. Though I would still like one if I could afford it.

I just think smaller wheels with fat tyres look right on an SUV.
