don't forget to fix the original cause of this , the screen jamming in the dash frame sometimes , you might like to relieve the plastic surround a bit , look for scuff marks ..

Thanks, I also think that thermal stress has something to do with it, what with it being right in the 'screen, the gear gets repeatedly very hot and cold. In fact up until last week the unit hadn't been switched on for at least 6 months so seizure is a strong possibility.

Hi.

Same as James Moss - my V50 Sat Nav has started doing exactly the same.

Thought I actually heard a slight "cracking" sound the first time the screen failed to pop up.

Is there nowhere we can actually get the bits & bobs needed to make this kind of repair without going through the main stealer?

Like what has been said before - can't justify a new screen being fitted when it's likely just a 50p component that has failed !!!

As I found this thread quite useful, I am going to add a few pictures from my fix.

I had this problem in my C70 which I fixed today.

I removed the screen and took the broken gear out.
It had one clear crack, so I removed the grease and glued it back into shape using a strong industrial elastomer.
Even tho the glue is of high quality and it is directly for plastics I haven't had much faith in it so I wanted to secure it with a 0,9mm one-piece metal wire, so the turning moment is absorbed by these wires and the glued broken surface isn't stressed that much.

I drilled 3 1mm holes through the gear, inserted the wire and secured all of it with the mentioned glue.

This way to fix it should survive the car.
Here are the pictures.

I hope this helps someone.

Do you have a part number for it?

Because the dealer only said there is an exchange service for 529€ when I give them my screen and they replace it with a fixed one.

They said they sell no repair kits.

Default Hi all

I have just brought my first ever Volvo, a 2007 C70 T5 and it's by far the best car I've had to date, but unfortunately I have the same issue with the sat nav screen not rising ;( also, I have a brand new set of upto date map discs but when I put the disc in it just says 'can not read disc, please re insert disc'!

I have followed several step by step fixes posted on this forum - which I have to say is grrrrrreat to the point that the home screen comes alive, then it says 'please wait' but then after around 2 minuets, again says, 'can not read disc, re insert the disc'!

Any further ideas peeps .......... Apart from bin it and buy a tom tom!

Many thanks in advance for any inspirational ideas

Probey
