Quite easily really. It'll have both due to EU emission regulations.

Not sure about more up to date engines than my EUIII lump tbh. Even with that engine and the EUIV D5 185 or 163 2.4D variants, various threads report success without codes being thrown or other side effects but equally others report issues.

TBH IMHO for what it's worth leave it as is and just give the engine an "Italian tune up" on a regular basis to keep it breathing. If the car only potters about let it rip now and again and give it a good long run to help keep things clean and breathing. After a 2000 mile run to Alps and back mine definitely feels and sounds better for it.

Dunno which engine you are referring to though so I might be spouting rubbish.

Italian tune ups dont help for sticky pollution due to egr in the intake
Specificly euro 3 makes a mess
Only manualy cleaning removes the plenum sludge
Euro 4 stays relatively clean due to the oxygen sensor in the exhaust wich detects mismatching egr mass
and cleaner combustion due to more holes in the injectors

EGR can be taken out software wise if you take a rica remap politely ask if they can adjust the EGR at mine they did

Aye she gets a good blast on a fairly regular basis, just seems a waste throwing dirty air back in to the block when I could block it and keep it running on clean stuff. friends of mine have blocked them on the likes of Navara's etc, and have seen a hike in mpg and pick up. By the way its a 2009 2.0 d. Found a plate to blank it off so might risk it and give it a go (fingers crossed).

Egrplate only works on euro3
Euro4 egr can only be blocked softwarewise
Only with plate =limpmode
