Default S40 2.0D Starting Problems

Hi. I have a 2006 S40 2.0D that i'm having trouble starting. I turn the key to crank the engine over but nothing happens, the engine does not turn over. If i keep the key turned all the way around to the starting position for a while, all of a sudden it fires up and runs fine. Some times this delay is five seconds, some times it can be 30 seconds, some times i have to do this three or four times before the engine will fire up, but so far it always starts, eventually. The problem is usually worse in the cold, and seems to be getting worse, (delay seems to be getting longer). Once started the engine runs fine. This has been happening now for the past three months. Any idea whats going on?

Turned out to be the ignition barrel was the problem, new one fitted and starts like a dream. Apparently a common fault!!
