Default C70 2.0D Rear Brakes

Hi just wanting a very quick bit of advice.

I am going to change the rear discs and pads on my 2010 C70 2.0D Auto (Powershift). Are there any peculiarities on these cars? Does it need a calliper wind back tool and if so is it a left hand thread?? Is the handbrake a prettty standard fit with cables on a ratchet or anything I need to be aware of?

I want to make sure I am prepared as it’s the first time I will have done the brakes in this car so did not want to find anything I wasn’t expecting once it’s in bits.

I will be doing the front brakes at the and time, but I guess there are pretty bog standard.

Anything anyone can offer as a heads up is much appreciated 👍🏼

You’ll need a wind off tool, I can’t renember which way it goes though.

Cheers for the reply, I thought the caliper wind back tool would be required.

So other than that I am guessing pretty straightforward with no idiosyncrasies.

Pair of needle nose pliers works fine... Infact worked better than my windback tool.

mine were sticking, which is a common thing with rear calipers (all 3 of our cars were the same)

I recommend getting some silicone spray, and gently lifting the piston boot off and giving it a good spray to help release any sticking calipers (and even if not, preventative maintenance).

Also handbrake off, one discs / pads replaced - start the engine and stamp on the pedal a good few times first, or else your handbrake is likely to reach for the sky on the first attempt.

Fronts are straighforward - silicone grease again and red grease can be used on the sliders, oh and brake cleaner / wire brush will be needed (careful around the rubber boots)

Just to close the loop on this if anyone else has the same questions.

Rear brakes use a RH caliper wind back tool. Nothing else untoward other than the top caliper retaining bolts are a pain to get onto because of the brake pipe and handbrake cable. I managed to get my ratchet spanner’s on them, just, as well as using an open ended spanner. No chance with a socket unless you remove the handbrake cable and possibly the brake pipe.

Fronts again pretty standard (too less than an hour go to both sides on my drive). All I will say is measure your front discs. When searching online I found that 278mm, 280mm and 300mm would all come up for my car (using my reg). When I measured my discs I found they were 320mm which rarely came up as an option, so my advice is check😉
