Yeah they can remove them pretty quick too.

Although everything helps, the more risk thieves have the less likely they will take yours over someone else's

Its a good reason to ensure you all get the buttonless key fob when you pick up your new or used car (with keyless entry) from the dealer, as a missing fob in the wrong hands could lead to good-bye new car.
A few people on here did not get their buttonless key fob.

No, it's no big deal to press a few buttons. To me, it's even less trouble to press just one
button on a keyfob and therefore I find that more convenient.
To be honest, it's not my problem since I didn't want keyless entry. I don't have an iphone either

That in itself is a good enough reason not to do it in the first place

Really? I thought that the DiskLock was sold secure or PAS24 or whatever is the standard and can take 5 minutes of heavy abuse? I have only seen good reviews and videos of them taking serious abuse. I think it was even a Which? Best buy. It is leagues ahead of those crappy old krooklocks....

Take care, the common mechanical locks all have weaknesses that professional thieves have learned to exploit.

As you’ve probably read, R type Golfs and Audi’s are often stolen to order, or to commit further crimes, in their cases, more physical security and a Ghost may just ring you waking up with a man wearing a balaclava next to your bed.

Pretty unlikely with a Volvo it has to be said.

Its even rare with M type BMW;s as theyre too hard for the monkeys to drive, the automatic/ DSG 4 wheel drive R VAG’s are the greatest risk.

You will see a lot of this on their own forums and on Pistonheads.

My own advice is dont make it too easy, protect the keys, but dont go so far as to risk a home invasion for keys and Ghost codes. The car is insured, you dont need to get hurt.

As a Post Script, this is now so common that if you’ve lost a key, please replace it, the insurance take a dim view if you cant produce all the keys after a theft.

Actually I think XC 60's and 90's are now on the list to order, they are in demand, there is a waiting list, they are not cheap, and now very popular.

I have had an email from Volvo CS -

Further to our conversation yesterday I have had an update from Volvo on call.
I requested that they ping the car every 5 mins overnight. There has been no response I am afraid.
Asking the Volvo on Call team they believe that the most likely reason is that the tracking unit has now been removed by the thieves.

What is a Ghost code?
