What is the 'newest' diesel?

Hello

Just trying to find out what the most recent 940 diesel I would be able to get is. I'm on the look out for a diesel car and have seen a 1996 'N' plate 940 estate TD - which seems to be the latest around. This has the updated tailgate handle of the last of the 940s. When was the diesel phased out? Any chance of finding a Classic or Torslanda diesel?

As an alternative would anyone recommend one of the later Volvo diesels? I was thinking maybe S/V70 or S80 - though am a bit wary of the reliability of the S80.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

an 850 diesel has the vw/audi group engine in which is very good - i believe the 940 is a bit rudimentary by comparison, the engine being based on a 70's renault/pug design..

the diesel engine in the 940 is a 6 cyl lump from VW/Audi and used in the VW LT35 van

I can wholeheartedly reccomend the D5. Plenty of power and the fuel economy is just superb! 45mpg short journies, 50mpg longer journies and 60mpg++ on the motorway! (I achieved 71.1mpg over a 20 mile period, but then it went down due to M25 traffic! Total for the 150 mile trip was 67.5mpg which is just fantastic! (I was cruising 60-65mph))

I use my 1990 940 td with a newer 96 TDic and get 33-36mpg from both engines but I commute about 10 miles a day so you could get more maybe. But 6 cylinders sounds cool! and the power is there.
