Many thanks for your replies and the information contained within them. I was also thinking low end of "top" or high of "middling", so almost 4k mark if I'm really lucky. As said above, whilst I would like to just sell to the right person rather than get the top price, circumstances are not being kind to us.

I would absolutely rather sell to someone who will love it and cherish it, rather than someone who will strip it for parts. I've spoken with my mother and that's her wish too and obviously I would want to honour that, so advertising on here first is probably the way to go. As you say, a group of like minded individuals is likely to be more honest than a random auto-trader sale.

The car is not "showroom perfect" but its really good condition and is obviously in fully running order. I recently drove it from Essex to Birmingham with no worries at all.

I'll have a think over the next week or so and make a decision.

Thank you. You have asked for advice. You have given that useful information for the Forum.

I have found that John Simmons is retired. The firm is now Volvo Car Services, Wickford Essex. I have spoken with their head mechanic, Mr John Turner. He is certainly "red block aware". I will visit that garage and report back to the forum in a new thread. This will not be quick by me.

Thank you again John Hat.

Your real issue is care fees. Please obtain expert independent advice. And my best wishes to the person needing care.
Well your REAL issue is that person's wellness and life quality. One serious need is regular ongoing interaction with family. Trust me, I learnt the hard way.

Stephen

Stephen,

Many thanks for the offer, but I should be able to source the paperwork from my mother - I just don't have it in front of me at present. (I've got the last few years MOTs but my mother I'm sure will have kept *everything*).

Hence no need to visit the garage at present I think.

Thank you but. I posted to thank you for alerting the forum to that Volvo specialist. It is for the benefit of the forum that I will visit and report back.

My best wishes for your relative. Of course, what they need is the love by their family.

Re the car. Opinions may vary as to value and future value. Do you want to spend time effort and money on it as an, investment?

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush .....

... so, what did you decide to do with the motor car? The suspense is killing us :-)
