Default Tailgate gas struts

The 940 Estate we have is in need of new struts for the tailgate. I'm just back from the main dealer here in Ireland and was quoted €139 for the pair. This seems like a lot of money. Has anyone replaced them in UK/Ireland and know of any site that I could order from? I've checked the local scrapyards but nothing doing.

Parts for volvo list them £14-69p each. Did mine couple of months ago. They do mail order, by the way, that price is for new ones.

Pete.

Cheers Pete, just looking online alright and that price is cheaper than anything I've found - which site is that? I can't seem to find anything on the Volvo pages I'm looking at?

*Edit* Sorry, found it now - thanks!

If you want even cheaper, you can get a pair from one of these mondeos. I think its the saloon version that has them.

Nuts! Good thinking Chris but already ordered. Works out around €44 to my door which is about what I was expecting, so I'm happy enough. Better than €139..

Got a pair recently from my local corner-shop auto parts. Just over £30 quid the pair. However I just bought a 940 fuel pump from the same source. They rang everyone including GSF and the Volvo price was the cheapest.

Brilliant. I need some gas struts, and you can always find Mondeos in the scrappies. When you say you think it is the saloon version, do you mean the hatchback? I didn't think there was a Mondeo saloon.

you may find the modeo struts haven't got enough power in them to support a volvo tailgate it must be much heavier than a modeo bonnet or tailgate

I believe (but maybe mistaken) I read somewhere that the tailgate on a 940 estate is made of aluminium for that very reason (to keep the weight down).

If I'm right, it seems mildly amusing that someone would build a big solid motor, with a huge cast iron engine in it, and big well upholstered seats, and then think, hmm, we'll reduce its weight by putting an aluminium tailgate on
