General: - 2015 XC60 coolant leak

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to locate a coolant leak? I was getting the warning light, and when I checked it the coolant was almost full. The warning light came on again the next day and almost ran hot and now very little coolant is in there. This is my first volvo so not familiar with the mechanics.

You need to do a pressure test with a kit.

Basically, you hook an adapter on top of the coolant reservoir and then use a hand pump to pressurise the system, but you need to know the pressure that your car operates at so you don't pump too much air in. Once you've pressurised the system, you need to leave it be. Once its had a few minutes, check the gauge on the hand pump to see did the pressure drop. If it did, there's a leak and where the air is escaping from is the culprit (you can usually hear it if this test is done in a quiet environment). If the needle didn't move, that means there's no leak usually.

Without a pressure test, there's not really much you can do. All you could do is a visual check around the engine/underneath the car for any damp hoses. Coolant has a sweet smell to it.

Garages will have the kit to perform this type of test.

I usually pump them up to about a 1 bar, enough that the hoses go hard but you don’t want to be causing any leaks haha. If you have an external leak you will soon find it. If it’s only a small leak then you may well need to leave it some time for it to develop. But firstly I would start by removing the under tray and cleaning off and drips ect so your starting fresh.

Worth checking bottom corners of the rad, common failure.
