stick Red Line Racing ATF F into Google or eBay and it will pop up - it's an American product

Where is VolvoTown?

380KM is 235k miles - no reason why if treated well and oil changed and correct oil etc etc an M47 should not do 235k miles and double that

However, if you have a fault, you have a fault. Your options for this model of gearbox are limited in terms of overhaul. Do you know a transmission specialist or were you going to do it yourself?

I live in Israel.
Not so many gear specialists that are willing to take care of an old machine. In addition, manual transmission Volvos are rare here.
Most of the 240/740 sold here were automatic.
I've found a used box, which the owner says it's in good condition, but it's not overhauled, and he wants about 1200USD for it! too expensive for an unknown history gearbox.

I'm not sure about the shipping of oil product. Need to check if it can by delivered by mail and what will be the cost.

Feeling confused.

Ok, easy bit first. I bought the ATF on eBay so shipping was no problem - in the UK at least

$1200 is very expensive for a s/h box. In the UK you are looking at £200-400 depending on mileage and known history. Altho a heavy item, I would have thought shipping to Israel would not be bonkers, providing you don't want it too quickly! - There are three on eBay in the UK at the moment for under £200. You would have to call the breaker to ask about mileage/condition and what cost shipping to Israel

Finding a cable drive gearbox is not easy. I might have a good M46 cable drive but doubt I will have another cable drive M47. Both gearboxes are in demand for converting amazons.

Shipping to Israel is more expensive than sending to the US

Check out the sales section on the forum - 360 beast has an M46+o/d box - may be of use (altho' appreciate there is a transportation issue to deal with)

^but that m46 was removed from a 940 so it doesn’t have a speedo drive and it doesn’t have the correct prop with it. I think that’d end up being more trouble than it’s worth.

GLE240- can you take the gearbox out and disassemble it yourself? If so one approach may be to take it apart, find out what is wrong and then try to order the required parts from the USA/europe.

Cheers

Bugjam1999,

I guess that eventually that's what I'll do. Disassemble it by myself and order the necessary parts.
I thought I would find an easier solution but not other choice as far as I see it.

For now I'm working on the engine - after this part will be finished, I'll start with the gearbox.

BTW, any other recommendations for the oil type? except ATF Type F?
