D24TIC - 2.4 tic did a muppet change my cambelt

Hello,
two days ago I had my main cam belt and tensioner replaced on my 95 940 2.4 tic 160k.I used a commercial vehicle specialist.
They said the job would take around four hours or so.I returned later in the day to find the mechanic stressed and complaining about what a pig the job was.He was having trouble refitting the crankshaft pulleys.
I finally got the motor back halfway through the second day (fair enough thats motors for you).
On driving of I instantly noticed a hum.I pulled over to find that the alternator belt had been fitted to the wrong pulley on the crank and it was running out of line.I do not use a aircon belt.
The mechanic did the swap over.
Now I have a noise that sounds as though the vehicle is grounding when I cross sleeping policeman (but it is not grounding) this does not occur when the engine is swithed of.The fan cowling looks as though it is not attatched correctly and this may be the cause.
The main crankshaft pulley is running slightly out of true,all other pulleys run straight as a die.
Is there any checks I should make to see if the belt has been fitted correctly.

This engine really should be looked at by someone with experience as there are a few things which can go wrong if someone doing it has no experience . i would guess the pulley has been put on wrong , there is a notch to locate it and if this is 1/4 turn out it will all come loose in a short time and wreck the engine . Tow it to your volvo dealer and send the bill to the people who did this ...

Beware - my main dealer screwed up my cam belt during a service.
It gave way in the fast lane of the M1. Fortunately I guided my 850 to the hard shoulder so the kids and I escaped disaster.
Had it towed to the main dealer where they looked at it and at first admitted they had screwed up - engine cover on so tight one bolt had to be drilled out. Belt cover on so tight the belt had worn a long groove/cut through it. No wonder it gave out.
£5000 to repair they said.
Had it independently assessed - I complained to Volvo UK, but they and the dealer said it was a faulty water pump which had caused the belt to break, and they had the car and pump!!!!! No opportunity to disagree. I must still pay £500 to have it repaired.
I almost took them to court but although the court case would have resulted in me winning, their claim of mechanical fault would have meant only by 80:20 in my favour, so it would have cost me £1000.
I had to pay the £500 for the repair (on top of the original 80,000 mile service which included the belt change).
The dealer changed owner a couple of years ago - but kept the same staff.
I will never let them do any servicing on any of my cars again.

just a thought the grounding but not grounding fault look at the plastic cover around the fan that goes onto the rad mine did it and took a month or two to find the fault the cover wasnt seated in the bottem of the rad and when you hit spead ramp it tilted into the fan

Hmm sounds like someones "Fargled" the Job ... T.B.H. when I did the belt on mine, I managed it without removing the Radiator ... just removed all the Fan Cowling ... Fan off too ... it sits on like an "Idler bearing" does nowt apart from Fan ... maybe a good case for an Electric conversion
