Default Re Tailgate?

Is there a safety device that will stop the tailgate from accidentally opening when on the move?

If you are referring to the power tailgate I think there is one, because it certainly stops closing the instant you move off if it hasn't fully closed yet (don't ask...).

It locks up tight in that last position and is a bu**er to close manually, seems to wait for some predetermined time, probably to teach you a lesson for being such a fool.

Not sure about the manual tailgate.

He he, I'll probably do it at some point.

Do you not have to hold the button before it opens a single press doesn't activate mine. Or at least I believe that to be the case.

This is probably so by design. I have to keep it pressed for a couple of seconds before it opens.

Yeah that's normally the case for me. I just wondered if there is a fail safe.

I had to press and hold the button on mine too for it to open and no, you can not open it while on the move.

My Dealer said - should get a message warning (left hand stalk , button on the end) & a clear yellow exclamation mark on the dashboard if the tailgate is unlocked/not shut properly. It shouldn't lift up much anyway due to the weight of it & the hydraulic rams that are fitted.
