Just hope your faith in the cause of the message being oil level is not mis-guided.

It's not a biggy anyway. Car goes into limp mode to protect itself if something noteworthy is up.

I have been through all sorts of problems since my car was serviced by a clown and he put 7L of oil in it. Read the post a few days back "mass Air Flow sensor"

Don't fret. I've had by 58 plate V70 since new and in the last 8 years I've done 48k miles. Whereas I avoid the really short journeys (2-3 miles), you can tell from my mileage I've done loads of short runs. My car still runs very sweet despite the low mileage and frequent shortish journeys.

In all that time I've only had the soot filter warning twice (quickly cleared with a blast along the motorway) in the depths of winter, and must have had loads of regens over that time. Close proximity of DPF to exhaust manifold I think helps to keep DPF hot and minimise regens.

I'm pleased to confirm that after about 200miles of driving today the warning has finally disappeared!

Thank you all for your suggestions and help! seems you were spot on!

A regeneration happens when specific criteria are met and you have very reliable and expensive sensors to determine the correct moment.

You wanting it to regenerate isn't one of the criteria.

That said, if you have the Volvo diagnostics Dice and Vida, you can do a regen when you want and as often as you want..... Not recommended though.

I do loads of short journeys in my 2007/8 v70.Never had any problems , Never noticed it do regen but always add 2stroke oil to fuel to cut down particulates and preserve DPF. It adds about £1 to a tank of fuel but keeps everything running sweet.

I've read about adding 2 stroke oil to the diesel in this forum but I've also read that on some cars the type of injectors do not take 2 stroke oil kindly and can be damaged. So, can anyone tell me how I identify whether or not adding 2 stroke oil is acceptable in my MY2012 XC70 D5 Auto. Thanks

Mine is a D5 and it will be fine. The oil replaces the lubricity in the fuel that is reduced due to sulphur, that is a lubricant being removed from the fuel due to emission requirements . Make sure though that you only use Low ash self mixing mineral based oil . DONT use the synthetic 2s oils . I use the Carlube 2s oil from Morrisons at £2 for 500ml. Dose the fuel at 200 to 1 so 500ml does about 1.5 tanks . Its not critical and if you doubled up it wont damage your engine but its more expensive.
A friend in my club misunderstood and tipped a liter in his Mondeo 2.0 liter . It never missed a beat .

Sorry to pursue the point but are you saying that a D5 215bhp engine has injectors which can handle 2 stroke oil added to the fuel? Does that apply to all of the D5 engines? I'm just being ultra cautious on this as I don't want to look like a wally if I had to limp the car round to my garage and admit that I had caused a fault! You really don't know how badly my mechanics can take the ****!
