P3 auto tailgate maximum opening
2014 p3 D4 se lux with nivomats. Auto tailgate was worn out now replaced (pistons and motor) but does not open to full height, been back to Volvo today for a reset but it still only opens to 5ft 11ins, guess what, that is my height. So on the level fine, but if parked on an uphill slope nose up increasingly geometry makes the tailgate sit lower and plainly it catches my head if I am not careful. It is possible to push the tailgate up a long way for clearance, but what is the point of an automatic system if you might at times have to manually open it further.
The car sits properly on the level and no indication the rear suspension is low, obviously the rear does drop if weight is applied but that is rectified during driving. Anyone got any bright ideas? I had a 2010 p3 which was written off I seem to recall it had a different system, and have heard Volvo tried 3 systems? none appeared to be any good. Otherwise the car is great pulls like a train with a big caravan on the back and is little effort on the mountain roads in Spain. If only I was 5ft 6. |

Check your manual.
You are able to set the tailgate so that it only opens a fixed amount so that, for example, you don't want to worry about hitting a low garage roof (at least that is the case with my 2016 xc70) From memory I think you hold the hatch at the required height with one hand while pressing the 'close' button for 3 seconds. |

If you push it open to its full height and then hold the close button for 3 seconds, then allow it to close and then open it again, does it not return to the higher position?

No just comes back to normal height. Tried this a while back when the pistons appeared to be losing strength and now with new ones, hold at higher level press button as required lid only lifts back to normal lower height. If any one out there has a V70 it would be good to see what height yours opens too on flat ground measured to the bottom of the plastic cover on the catch mechanism.
