Brakes: Parking Brake R&M

2002 Volvo V70 XC. I can not get rear rotors back on after replacing parking brake shoes. I have tried & checked everything multiple times. Cable is completely loose. New pads are Bosch replacements for Volvo Part #31262869 which is correct part per VIDA. Cable expander is closed. Shoes are oriented per VIDA drawing.
I have even gone so far as to shorten the fixed link 0.60 mm to get the rotor back on; but then with use everything seems to fall into place and is too loose to adjust for any contact. I am trying to replace my shortened links now with the correct ones #31257573, but have the same problem of not being able to get rotor on.
Any suggestions appreciated.

dont mind me, carry on.... I read new pads part and gave a reply based on pads, not shoes, as i think you meant?

Did you match the new ones against the old for correct size and "notching" etc.

Also, did you set the new shoes into the drum just to get a sense of how separated the shoes should be?

Does the inner diameter of the drum just fail to clear or is it a worse fit?

Correct number with wrong shoes in the box ain't unheard of. Ebay?

Sorry to tell you one of the cardinal rules is Volvo for parking brake shoes.

Thanks for the response. I put the shoe assembly into the rotor drum & micrometered the cable expander @ 59.4 mm and the shoe notch gap @ 55.6 mm; so the shoes are the problem, not the installation. This could be caused by a thicker pad. Unfortunately I do not have the old shoe set to compare against, but I have ordered a new set of Volvo branded shoes. Have been driving it without e-brake for some time. Had it apart to rebuild a caliper, so thought I would give it another try. This could be resolved by grinding each of the shoe notches 2 mm deeper, but I will wait on the Volvo shoes to compare. Needless to say I am a believer of the CARDINAL RULE: Volvo for parking brake shoes. My Bosch shoes are too big, and I’ve seen posts where they are too small. I will report back when I get the new shoes in about a week.
FYI my 2002 V70 XC has 162,000 mi. Purchased in 2008 w/35,000 mi for wife, she loves it. Overall it has been a good vehicle with the exception of the known hard shifts. Engine is solid, recently replaced timing belt & components. Replaced broken rear spring & shocks last year, still need to do front struts. Even so it has a noticeable better ride than my Toyota or Ford. Typical aggravations along the way: seized wheel lugs, jammed key cylinder, alarm system failure, brake light failure, power passenger seat failure and others. Probably good for another 162k, w/ possible transmission replacement; but at 18 yrs old it is time to start considering a replacement.

Just a thought, did you back off the adjuster on the handbrake/parking brake lever itself, the one under the central console?

If you haven't then there may be too little slack in the cable which would mean the shoes are fitted partially deployed and you can't get the rear hub/rotor to go over the shoes.

The other way out of the problem is to fit the adjustwers that used to be fitted on the 850s, you can then adjust each set of shoes individually - it also stops the "roll back" on the parking brake - it has made the world of difference to my current V70.

Been there, done that, got the refund - suspension parts "Sachs" is Eurocarparts own brand they bought the rights to the name???? mfc in China unless you order them direct from Sachs Germany.

Received new Volvo parking brake shoes. Expander notch gap in hub is 60.0 mm (vs. 55.6 mm with Bosch). Installed Volvo parking brake shoes & disc hub. Hub fits with no interference. Correctly made part makes the job so much easier.
After installing I found my parking brake cable had disengaged at the spliter causing the previous lack of adjustment. A good reason not to modify parts to make them fit. After reattaching cable parking brakes work like new.
