Looks like an oil cooler.
I don't think I need to explain what it does.

Yeah, thanks. That was my guess too. I just wonder why it's not on the other car which is a year older. Wondering if I should transfer it.

My '97 P1 had the oil cooler, so your older car must be older still or it has been modified. If it has lasted this long without, why bother to retro fit. It is an oil cooler BTW.
