Hey thanks for the reply I've looked thought Google earlier on and found what you posted but none specify the correct direction for the taper to face just lots of exploded diagrams I'm pretty sure it's supposed to face the front on the car but just after some clarification etc thanks

How can there be a choice as to how it sits?
The bottom of the spring can only fit one way so that dictates how the top of the spring sits.
The assembly then rotates within the top mount/bearing and of course the bearing can only be bolted in one way.

Yeh I know but the upper seat is just a rubber doughnut as.sutch and doesn't have any indication on how it locates on the spring etc

Who writes this stuff

Disassembling the spring strut
Hint:
Note the position of the components. This will make installation easier.
Replacing the spring
Note! The colour code on the spring must be downwards towards the spring strut.
Assembling the spring strut
Lubricate the stop using petroleum jelly. Install the stop in the dust boot.
Pull out the shock absorber rod completely.
Install:
the rubber stop and dust boot
the rubber on the underneath
the spring strut through the spring
the rubber on top
the upper spring seat
the mounting
the upper mounting for the spring strut
the nut. Finger tighten.
Install the spring seat so that the holes in both the spring seats are lined up.
Unless you have post 2000 models with sport or dynamic suspension
Chassis type pdf be patient
where you rotate the top mounts 20% clockwise blah!

Carefully release the spring and check that is correctly positioned in the rubber stop at the spring seats.
Tighten the nut to 65 Nm.
Coat the bearing in grease.
Install dust cover.
