Went through this already with the help of fellow forum members. I'm using 215/40 on a 1999 T4 with no rubbing problems, apparently 215/45 can slightly contact the wheel arch liner. I believe the P2 doesn't have this problem.

Cheers guys, bit of a revival I know but I have since got some original rays engineering Japanese split rims, for the grand price of absolutely free, they were about to be thrown away together with a load of other junk wheels and tyres and were saved, not to everyone's tastes but here's a photo anyway, mine look absolutely wrecked, these are what they are like as new, diamond cut and polished from standard, although I'll probably spray the centres in a regular metallic silver and just Polish the lips.

They are 17x7, et36, 4/5x114 multifit and they sit perfectly, the lower offset negating the wider rim so to speak, however they catch like buggery because the tyres that are on them (ancient and need binning) are 215/50 17, a little too big, the width making the tyre look slightly bulbous as well.

So, without changing the rolling radius too much from my standard 15, trying to maintain a similar width to standard as I hear p1s have arch lip catching problems, and not wanting silly low profile elastic band tyres, I'm thinking that 205/45 might be ok, I mean I can't really see any legitimate reason for why I can't use this size (although I await skyship with one of his handbook specification Tuv posts haha) but yeah I think they should work.

The next thing once I've refurbished them will of course be which make of tyres to get, I used to love toyo t1rs but am unsure what sits well with price and quality, i hate ningpongting budget crappery so none of those sorts of brands, but then I'm also hearing good things about uniroyal rainsport 3s, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to get really.

This was the one I test fitted, and by far the best condition one out of them all, they've been outside for what looks like years, it sort of gives the idea anyway.

Love the last picture with the winter effects alloy finish and best of all, the grass green wall tyres. Looks like a real offroading special job, BUT don't lower it unless you change to Twingo winter M&S tyres, as there are bound the be a few grassy mounds to drive over along the way.
