Default Climate Control

So, it is now some time since I retrofitted the automatic climate control with the invaluable help of Gatos, and I have started wondering, when it is all set to automatic, should the AC turn on and off automatically? I have noticed I need to press the button to activate it and it stays on (or off) no matter what temperature I have the car set to.

What do you mean by it stays on or off?

Do you mean the light on the panel or the compressor clutch is permanently engaged/disengaged?

The little light on the AC switch on the dashboard, If I turn it on it stays green no matter what temperature I set the climate to, if it is turned off it stays Red no matter what temperature. I'd just wondered if the Automatic Climate was meant to be able to control that by itself.

That is right Brent. You need to press the AC button to turn it On/Off. It's not the most sophisticated system really....

Just because the AC light is on, it doesn't mean that the AC is on.
It means that if the climate system needs to engage the AC compressor to maintain your selected temperature, it will do and it will then cycle the compressor in and out as required.
If the AC light is off, the compressor won't cycle at all, even if it's actually needed to reach or maintain the selected temperature.
With climate control, leave it on auto and leave the system to do whatever it wants.

A/C? Whats that!? Ive only ever owned one car where it worked then the radiator fell apart so I just removed it all.

My A/C is to wind all the windows down, sunroof open and drive quicker.

I have to admit that being an Aussie I don't really see much need for it in the UK
