Are the speaker wires running to the amp under the seat, there should be two rectangular connectors on the amp one for power and the other for the speakers, the round DIN lead is also required.

Check the fuses are fitted for the amp as Volvo are good at fitting all the wiring and not fitting fuses for items not fitted when the car was originally built - Mike

So all seems 100% now. No more CD errors. I was having a search through the forums and someone mentioned that they had a similar problem and when they put in the fuse for the cd changer (in the fuse box in the boot) the error went away. So I figured I'd give it ago and all cd's are ejecting and playing properly now. Happy days.

Just to add to this thread

I have a post on here currently regarding issues I am having with a suspected DDM fault - Drivers door seems devoid of power, mirror wont adjust, window wont come down, and remote/central locking doesn't lock or open it.

Anyway, in an attempt to save myself ~£300 for a new DDM at the dealer, I have done some research regarding salvage units on here and elsewehere and decided to bite the bullet and try one.

I have ordered one as close as dammit to the original - The details on the sticker on the DDM currently installed are

30658146
04 W17E
ME17310-0137

The one I have ordered is
30658146
04 W18E
MD18140-0101

Now I am hoping these are close enough matches! I think it is just the top number that matters - with the 04 being a year? (my car is 04 plate)

It was removed from an S80, mine is an S60 but for all intents these are the same car along with V70 etc

I will update when it arrives with the outcome! If it fails oh well it was only £20!

Dear Alpha206,

you are not 100% right, some of the parts can be used in another vehicle, like dim, radios, ecus and etc. most of these units has a chip inside called eeprom, which is 1 write only, but if you solder it out and out a new blank chip in, you can take it to volvo, they'll do a soft download and of you go. i know this well as when my dim and stereo went on 52 plate s60, contacted volvo and got a heart attack from their prices. started doing a research and in our Russian friend's forum I found a guy called Dima, he told me exactly what to do to "virginise" a donor dim and radio. which i did, and after soft download my car is up and running again.

i can see you are thinking straight, nothing happens to volvo if you fit modules from other cars, as for my volvo, i have swapped fabric interior for a black leather from a t5 with electrics, recently swapped my 603 unit for 803 and didnt even need to virginise it. since then had a soft download done to enable front fogs. and now every time i connect it to the car it just comes up as i fault "configuration fault" with no more details to it, so from what i have read on this thread, RoyMacDonald does not really know what he is talking about. canbus is not a security feature, it is just a different communication system, that is all. and so far i can see, that this guy solely believes what volvo say in their handbooks for workshop. RoyMacDonald do us a favour and dont spread incorrect info to fellow members, we come here to seek help and not to obtain incorrect info.

Nobody so far has named anyone who this has happened to or sent us off to a thread that does, I still can't see how Volvo can render your car useless, either legally or morally or any other thing for that matter. Hopefully someone will come in and give us a definitive answer, until then I think it's a myth.

Regards to all and sorry to go slightly off subject.

When did I say canbus was a security feature?

My understanding is it's the log of serial no's the car holds that is the security feature and how Volvo deals with the car having a wrong no if the part was not deactivated from the donor car. I may well be wrong I'm only going by what I've read on the forum.

Just to update on this

I fitted the replacement DDM today and it works like a charm!

Was a bit hesitant at first to lock, kept popping the lock back up but after disconnecting battery/fuses etc it works a treat

Saved myself around £280 by trying and not just taking it to the dealer - I would recommend anyone in the same boat trying the same first!

To update with my findings, car came to me having had a "new"abs and pump fitted and car showing anti skid service. Took it to independent who couldn't sort it, however they did not try the download update as described in Vida.
It is possible the unit was used and therefore programmed to another vehicle as the error on Vida was unknown configuration, whether the software update would resolve this I don't know. I've now refitted the original module and all is well. Talking to RUFE, it seems dealers may be able to flash units to clear them of previous vehicles data, I personally think they would not do this as would involve used parts. My local dealer would not even look at my car after it had been elsewhere.
So, yes I agree that great caution should be taken when purchasing second hand electronics.

My understanding is that parts can be used again but they need to be deactivated using Vivda while still on the doner car to enable them to be installed on the new vehicle. BBA-Remen may be able to reprogram to enable installation.

The serial no's of all electronic parts fitted have to match the list held in the cars memory. I'm guessing you have to remove the existing part in Vida as well. It's an anti theft thing.

Modern cars can be quite a headache for garages when mucked about by someone who doesn't have the experience.

Some people here say that there is no problem but I'm not sure they are hooking the car up to Vida and going on line before they say that.
