I agree with supplying a spare of some kind. I ordered mine with a tempa spare. Rather would have liked a full size spare as it's just easier when abroad, and over here, especially when you're fussy about what tyres you have on.

Full Size would be ideal, especially for family holidays. The diameter of the well appears to be adequate to fit a full size but the well would need to be far deeper to accommodate the wider tyres that are fitted to modern cars. With the boot floor lifted up there is masses of space underneath largely taken up by polystyrene inserts, space that can be used. I'd retain the inserts for when the boot is not loaded to save the spare rattling about.

I may have posted before, but I'm definitely in favour of a physical spare, although relatively happy with a reduced width or higher profile.
It's pretty easy in Australia to be out of phone coverage on bitumen and especially gravel roads and many miles from any settlement. I can easily do it within a couple of hours from central Sydney. Tyre damage is an ever present likelihood. Even in our cities, stock in different tyre sizes and profiles can be limited. Without some sort of physical spare there is high potential for stranding.

I'd definitely feel more comfortable carrying a full size spare. At minimum a space saver, i detest the repair cans, if you have a blow out or a big cut then your stranded and it seems like it is purely to save costs.
My V50 came with a space saver but I've got a full size spare in there, its tight but if the wheel well was 10-15mm more it would be comfortable. Surely that could easily be designed in. |

Its just not pratical to carry a full sized spare but i holy agree that a space saver is a must,
Both my dad and sister bought new cars last year and both ticked the spare wheel box, Having had a blow out on motorway at top of saddleworth i was highly releaved when i looked in boot and there was a spare there (wasn't my car) as the tyre was absolutely trashed,

I am interested in alternative ways to carry a full size spare as I will be fitting a doughnut LPG tank in my spare wheel well. I was tempted to get an external mount like a Jeep back door one, but I want to also get a bike rack. Any other thoughts? I don't want it on the bonnet like a Land-Rover though!!!

Why not put the bike rack or spare wheel on the roof?

Wind resistance... It is already a brick :-), and I really don't like bikes on the top of the car and I have already fitted a towbar for the carrier!!!

Bikes on the back will affect the aerodynamics as well I'm afraid. Put the wheel in an aerodynamic roof box? Either has to go on the roof or inside if you want the bikes on the back but you could rig up a bike rack to take bikes and a spare wheel.
