No lights behind buttons/switches?
Just confirmed today when going through a tunnel, none of my buttons or switches are backlit. I've tried adjusting the thumbwheel and whilst I can see something (maybe the RTI screen) does dim/brighten, none of the buttons or switches ever get illuminated.
And I have considered that maybe the car is smart enough to know it's daytime...but I was in a dark tunnel and STILL they didn't come on! I was wondering if it could be a fuse, but I can see (I think) that the instrument cluster is on the same fuse as the driver's power chair and that works. So not that? Thanks |

An easy check to prove the car can tell the difference between ‘light’ and ‘dark’ is the cabin/ courtesy lights; if you have a door open and they work it’s dark and if you’re checking in daylight and they don’t work cover the led pod on the top/ centre of the dashboard and they’ll come on.

I drive through many tunnels, and my MY2009 XC90 takes 20 seconds to recognize a sudden change from day to night.
So maybe you didn't wait long enough...? But if you turn the car on at day or night, it recognizes day respectively night immediately. Another indicator of day or night mode is the back-light on the radio LCD display: Black text on illuminated background = day Illuminated text on black background = night

Thanks that was it - was expecting the change to be quicker when I went into the tunnel.
