Default Battery confusion

Hi folks. My xc60 is in need of a new battery. Tayna thought it was a 110EFB from my reg but that's a different size from what's fitted.

Based on the dimensions, it's an 096EFB.

Anyone got recommendations for a replacement? What should i expect to pay for a Volvo branded one? Curious to know who makes the OEM ones as it won't be Volvo!

Cheers

Dealer prices are usually very good value, make sure they don't screw you on fitting and always ask for a discount (if you don't ask you don't get).

And at a dealer you know you will get exactly the right battery.

I ordered one from these people for my S60 (not stop start):

https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/

Arrived the next day (during the first lock down) and was reasonably priced

The external size of an 096 battery is the same, whether EFB or AGM. The 110 is 37mm longer than an 096 and not quite as high.

Have a look in your owner's manual: there are TWO owner's manuals for MY2017, one for 'Early 2017' and one for 'Late 2017'. The external size for Early and Late are both 096, NOT 110. Strangely, in the owner's manuals the Early MY 2017 were specified with an AGM for an automatic car like yours, and EFB for manual gearboxes (p 375), whereas the later MY2017 could have either EFB or AGM (p373).

However on the same page for the Early and the Late models Automatics were further specified to need a a CCA of 760amps.

So....
If your car is a Late 2017 then it could have an 096EFB or an 096AGM. The only 760A EFB listed by Tayna is the Varta; all the rest have a smaller CCA. Almost all makes of 096AGM are 760A.

If your car is an Early 2017 then the owner's manual book is clear that an automatic car should be AGM.

In practice there is very unlikely to be a noticeable difference.

Thanks for your comprehensive post. My car is from June 2016 so I would have thought that would make it an early MY17.

However it's fitted with a Volvo EFB battery which is original. The battery sticker does state it can be replaced with either an EFB or AGM battery

I'm waiting for my local dealer to come back with a price then will make a decision.

Interestingly, the battery box has plenty of space so I think a 110 would fit no problem but I'll stick with the current size

Thumbs up

Went for a Lucas AGM battery from Tayna. Just over £100 delivered next day and took me 10 mins to fit

Stop start was working within a couple of miles on my test run so happy days!

Forgot to add that my manual is for an early MY17 car which would fit with the June '16 registration date

As previously mentioned, the manual states that my automatic car should be fitted with an AGM battery with 760CCA. However, it was actually fitted with an EFB 720CCA unit!
