Rear demister repair
Hi all
My rear window demister is only half working. Has anyone tried those paint on repair kits? |

Yes, I used to use them over 20 years ago. They work fine if you follow the instructions. Much cheaper than a new windscreen....

I've tried them more recently and sorry to say it but these days they're thick and gloopy and don't really work as they used to.
My rear screen now looks like it has measles and still only has the top two elements working!

Just ordered the Loctite Circuit stuff from France. Will let you know how it works if it ever gets here. Saw the non-Loctite alternatives had bad to poor reviews.

If you need it to look 'original', then use some good quality masking tape on the intact parts but go across the gap. Paint it on and while its still wet, remove the tape.
I defy anyone to tell it's been done aside from a slight colour change. Sure as hell doesn't now infuriate me when I'm taking my semi-annual look in the rear view mirror...

I have always had good success with repairing these, using a multimeter on continuity can also aid in finding the breaks but normally a good eye can see them. I have used the small bottle with the gloopy stuff and also used the pen type also, easier and cleaner. Google PCB repair pen.
If you want a nice clean job, you can use the blue thin masking tape, a little strip on either side, leaving ample time to dry. Or alternatively use a sharp blade in one of these for better dexterity, using a metal straight edge, light score the overspill, then scrape up to the score to clean up PS, you still get over spill with the pen, its just easier to apply with it, shake well!!
