It appears (after speaking with Erie VoVo) that there isn't a security consideration on the Amplifier parts.

When I gave them the part number that Volvo would sell me (36050036) or its alias (36002296), Erie said those are new part numbers, not original part numbers. So I looked up the original part number (the "EXCHANGE FOR" part number listed in Volvo documentation) which is: 31215620

And as I've found these things tend to have two part numbers, I believe the second number for this is 31215619.

So I found a pulled part 31215620 for $125 (saving $600 over the dealer quote) and I shall see what happens!
___________

FYI, another 31215620 is on eBay right now for $199 (eBay item 323363318087), listed as "07 08 09 Volvo C70 C30 Audio Radio Stereo Amplifier" aligning with another thread on this forum that confirms that the same Class D 5x130-watt amp was used in C70 and C30 as in XC90 these years.

Also I see another (eBay item 263585891560) from a 2008 C30 for $165 or best offer, free shipping if anyone is following along at home and wanting to upgrade

Fingers crossed! Thanks for the help-- I'll update soon!

Remember that the premium amp uses different speakers, including a center channel speaker

The front door speakers are very different, beuing 4 discrete speakers, instead of the 2 x speakers of the high power system

Yes indeed, fortunately these seem easier to come by and not too expensive. I do plan to source and install those. The great thing is all the wiring looms are in place for the dynaudio speakers, including center channel. I have read reports on this forum of just the amp upgrade making huge improvements.

To get the center channel working (and access to the equalization, etc plus the "Premium" splash screen), I'll need two audio software flashes from the dealer, and they quoted me $65 for that.

It may be worth having a read of this post from the Swedespeed forum, where someone has tried exactly this already:

https://forums.swedespeed.com/showth...udio)-to-07-V8

Their findings were that MOST security wasn't active, so the replacement Dynaudio amp would work. However it wasn't possible for Volvo to download and install the upgraded Premium Audio application to the vehicle, so the centre channel, Pro Logic etc. still weren't available.

Very informative, thanks! I thought the only issue was when mismatching one's car "era" with that of second hand parts (e.g. a 2008 XC90 trying to add/enable a subwoofer (which wasn't offered in 2008). But based on the thread you found, it looks like the AUD load just plain won't work to go from High Performance to Premium on anything after 2007. Which is OK, I would rather have a center channel but 90% of the upgrade for me will be the amp and speakers which should work fine from all I've read thus far. Thanks again, and more to come!

Default Yellow-Label PS Speakers

Follow-up on Speaker selection:

I've decided to go with Yellow-label (2003-2006 Premium). Is there anything to note about impedance differences between the Dynaudio Amp (5x130) and these yellow-label units? i.e. any real-world issues? I know others have replaced Dyn with yellow-label PS and some have even preferred them so I'm not anticipating any gotchas there.

Knowing I won't be able to use the two center-channel speakers, I've assembled the following shopping list. Can anyone verify I have this right?

Front and rear pillar tweeters (same parts): PN 9472758 (x4) unsure impedance. (8 OHM?)
Front left door: PN 30657756 (x1) 4 OHM
Front right door: PN 30657757 (x1) 4 OHM
Rear Door (same both sides): PN 8633110 (x2) 8 OHM

I'm planning to just replace and discard the blue-label High Performance stuff. As far as I know I won't need any trim pieces. Are nuts and bolts preferable to replacing the rivets? If rivets, am I looking for:

PN 973884 (4.8x11mm)?
and how many? 3 per speaker?

Thanks!

p.s. again this is for a 2008 XC90 coming from High Performance system.

Default Update

Update: I received the amp from Erie and it was just a drop in plug and play replacement. All channels are working (all four that I can use anyway). No improvement to the (terrible) sound, but I have laid the groundwork for the speaker upgrade. Just need to source a yellow label set. Will keep the thread updated.
