Engine undershield

Recently engine died on motorway,managed to get to hard shoulder safely.
Rang AA,taken to nearest services to wait for mechanic to arrive.Told that undershield had caught somewhere and knocked off the crankshaft sensor.The offending shield was cut away,sensor was fixed and I was on my way.
My question is should the undershield be replaced?

Yes the plastic engine undertray should definitely be replaced to protect the engine compartment.

And it is an important air guide ...
I wonder why he destroyed it rather than undoing the screws? the flywheel sensor is at the top no where near the undertray , I smell a rat ..

I had one of the rear undertrays on my V50 drop down while driving, only noticed when i got home. Had melted around the bolt so had to cut it and rip it out of place. If the undertray was loose enough to tear off a crankshaft sensor, it probably dropped to the floor and dragged at stages. I found on both my V70 and V50 the screws never really felt "Secure" with the telf tapping screws and the inserts.
