Just turned 195,000 on a 2000 model 2.5 litre V70 (the early m`ark 2 models with the VW diesel engine). It has still got a way to go to catch up with my old petrol 740 estate that I sold a few years ago with 248,000 on the clock

193,000 on my 2002 V70 D5 and it's still running beautifully. Got it a year ago with a full service history and I can see that nothing major has ever been done/replaced.
Build quality is what it's all about I guess. My mate with a well-cared-for Citroen C5, two years younger and only 92K on the clock, has just had to ditch it because so many major things are going wrong. Nuff said!! |

Just sold my V50 2.0d at 257,000 miles. Running fine, a little smoke on hard acceleration, probably injectors. Not really noticeable.
Changed oil every 10,000 miles.

265K km of pure abuse. Lots of short trips and horse box towing at the weekends. Incorrect clutch use and even wrong gear selection.
Oddly enough, the number of trips relates more to engine wear than total miles, although driver style also makes a big difference. My last OCI (Oil Change Interval) was 17K km and produced a lower Iron figure than the previous 10K km OCI. Iron is a general wear indicator in used engine oil and it accumulates in direct proportion to the OCI. The 17K OCI Fe was 56 and the previous 8K km OCI Fe was 37, the last one should have been around the 80 ppm mark, so the fact is was so low indicates my block loves long oil change intervals and the associated dirty oil and air filters. The German Volvo dealers list 20K km as the max recommended OCI and it appears that will be perfectly OK, unless the HG fails etc. @JulianT: If you get some smoke just after a good long run, or it smokes at hot idle, then the injectors might be worth cleaning. I use Liqui Moly Diesel Purge, a direct feed or in tank diesel fuel additive and one easy way to use it, is to fill up the fuel filter housing with it when changing the fuel filter. About half of all injector faults are just gum deposits.
