Default Readview Garage - D5 Core Plug Replacement ...

I couldn't find a section specifically for recommendations of independent repairers, so I will scatter this posting liberally across the site in the hope that it helps another forum member with the inevitable D5 core plug failure.

-

My thanks and appreciation go to Adam and the team at Readview garage, in Huncoat nr Accrington, which is 10 miles East of Blackburn.

My 2003 V70 D5 Geartronic developed the typical oil leak from the weep hole between the block and the g/box.

I spoke with Adam (the proprietor at Readview) who quoted me an unbeatable price to replace the core plug and the crank rear seal.

The car was booked in a few days ahead, the work was completed on time and to a high standard.

Error codes were read, and the car was washed prior to collection.

If you need work doing on your elderly Volvo by a team that really care about these old barges, I can thoroughly recommend Readview.

Getting there is no issue - Huncoat has a rail station, 30 minutes travel time from Preston station.

Cool

Big waste of money if the clutch did not need doing (It's an engine lowering and box off job), in comparison to a good stop leak oil additive (Liqui Moly Stop Leak or Halfrauds if pushed for time or cash).

Move up one SAE oil grade (Not below a 5w40) and try a high mileage oil (GTX 15w40 is OK for non race use). Valvoline are top dogs with their Maxlife 10w40 for the winter.
Big spenders just love Mobil 1 10w60 EL/EP (Acea A3/B4)!

It would have been an even bigger waste of money had the core plug not been replaced. A replacement engine and associated labour would have cost 5 times the price.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of them, always useful to know of a local indie garage for the odd jobs I can't or don't want to do.
