Default Headlight washers

2006 XC70 D5. Driving back from Scotland Monday and noticed that the headlights were almost non existent on dip beam.
had driven through some awful weather on way home before darkness.
Checked the headlights when we got home and they were covered in dried up road spray. Obviously the washers are not working. Cleaned up the lenses and lights are great again.
Q1. I assume the headlight washers only work when the headlights are on (not day running )
Q2. Where is the pump for the headlamp washers. (hope I don't have to drop the front bumper off).
I appreciate it could be blocked jets but I would like to start by pulling the pipe from the pump to check.

I'd like to know the same but for S60 2005 D5.

Does mine even have headlight washers? I never saw them working but then again my windscreen washer pump is either faulty or lines to windshield sprinklers are blocked. Never got to fixing it as it rains almost everyday :P Should it work independently evey time you use windshield washer?

Hello there , make sure washer bottle is full as low fluid level stops headlight washers & reserves what's left for the windscreen . Headlight washers only operate with headlights switched on ( Dip beam ) & not everytime you wash the screen , try cleaning screen several times , see if the pump kicks in . You know if it does everything gets drenched .
