Default sc-805/sc 805 Premium Sound System not picking up radio

Hi all,

From a 1999 V70 I have a sc 805 "Premium Sound System" which gives a great sound on CD but it is not picking up any radio channels.

If I wiggle the antenna cable, I can get a crackle out of it, but no radio channels.

If I plug in another sc 805, the radio works fine, which to me indicates that the problem is not with the antenna.

What is the chance that if I open the unit up, I will see something simple like a loose connection that I can fix?

Any advice or links to guides welcome.

Is there any difference between a grey sc805 and and sc805 "Premium Sound System" with the black and gold front?

Thanks
Steve

Yeah, the black one is worth £100 more, just because its black. In seriousness though, black ones are rare as they had a much shorter production run and are wanted by 850 owners to match the dash. They premium sound system also uses slightly different DACs and interior components - they do, as the name suggests, offer improved sound.

I must admit, I didn't realise the grey ones existed, so I accidentally bought a grey one. After an hour or so of fiddling, I swapped the facia on the black 'Premium Sound System' to the 'new' grey unit. Not as simple as I would have thought, but as long as you remove the ribbon cable carefully and put it in the back of the display, you'll be fine.

The older black models need fine pliers to remove the circuit board, which is separate from the display, but the newer ones seem to almost fall out complete with the back once you remove the side clips.

Anyway, all sorted and working. My problem was a progressively worse CD reading which would only work on long journeys, and a tired cassette player which has a failed belt. I suspect that could be fixed, but the CD player was not for saving. The radio wasn't great either. For me, a working radio is a must to cover up the sound of the engine (diesel)

Anyway - might help someoone.
