Decided to update my maps and downloaded to a USB. This went OK and the files were downloaded OK.
Put USB in to car and message came that Sensus and Gracenote were being updated.great I thought and drove off to town.
Along the way a message came that update had failed,USB unreadable, insert USB 1 and press exit to cancel.
Pressed exit as I have no idea what USB1 is and now have a message that Navigation is starting....... but it doesn't, just shows the message, no Navi!!!

Have I completely knackered it somehow?

Anyone remember back in the day when all you needed was a 13mm spanner and a screwdriver to work on a car? Now you need a qualification in AI!

Did you verify the files with the downloader before transferring the files?

Yes,files verified.
I have reformatted the USB to exFAT and retried. The files downloaded and were verified. I have started the update and it now seems to be running OK. Just a few minutes to go and then we will see if it worked. Fingers crossed!!

Well it seems that the USB has to be formatted to exFAT rather than 32FAT and it will work.
Happy to report that I now have the updated maps.

FAT32 has always worked for me but I did get a glitch like yours with the latest update. I just removed and reinserted the stick and all was good again
