Default Your thoughts on lane assist?

I haven’t had the guts or the road to test pilot assist yet, but with lane assist I’ve been thinking about turning it off.

You’ll be driving along normally and all of a susd3n the car tries to shunt you to the left or right which I think is quite dangerous and takes you by surprise.

Do you use this and how do you find it?

Yet another unnecessary feature to go wrong.

My S90 does not 'shunt' it gives a gentle tug just to remind you that you may be deviating from the safe line. Not dangerous in any way.
I leave all my driver aids on, there may be the odd occasion when I have missed something or just lapsed my concentration and it could save my life.
Pilot assist is very good in almost all situations, you still have to read the road and be prepared at all times to intervene if it has misunderstood a situation. Some do not like the position it takes in a lane but I have come to accept that it knows what it is doing and leave it to take the path that it likes.
Your life your choice.

I gave it a few months then turned it off, worse than useless. I don't see the point if you can't rely on it.

I'm with Mad Malc - all safety devices left on in my car; once familiar with using them I've found them all quite to be quite subtle and unobtrusive.

Only thing I couldn't get used to was the speed limit assist thingy - the repeated mis-reading of signs / old speed limit information in the database was always a concern for me so I never bothered turning it on.

Our Sportage has lane assist. I've tried it and enjoyed the novelty of it, but I now prefer to leave it turned off.

LKA is OK, just gives a tug at the wheel if I do something that it doesn't like, changing lanes, or crossing centre line without indicating for example, I just ignore it. However it will guide you back into lane if you have inadvertently strayed, so I keep it on. I'm not really fond of Pilot Assist, if I have to keep my hands on the wheel I may as well do things the 'old way' and steer the car, think I make a better job of it.

It's not dangerous, it just gives you a gentle nudge to let you know that you're potentially straying from your Lane.

However I found it slightly too naggy and switched it off.

I like most of the driver support systems. ACC works well as does Pilot Assist most of the time. BLIS is also useful, although I still look over my shoulder before changing lanes (result of my gliding days).

I'm not sure I would actually 'rely' on any of the driver support systems though being as they are just the product of sensors and software.

I usually have lane assist on but on Irish back roads it is a nuisance because we are always straddling or crossing the line so I disable it there. Its a good idea on major roads though.

Pilot assist is no use but ACC is mighty.
