Unhappy Difficult starting

Hello all
My V70 T5 encounters a problem with starting after I have filled up with petrol, any other time it starts perfectly. After i have filled up it takes the enigine quite a few turns to get get it going and once it has started the idle fluctuates for a few seconds until it levels to normal tick over. I have tried various things to recreate the problem but it only happens after fill up.

Any ideas or advice would be great.

Thanks

I'm certain this has been discussed before, I think an 850 was the culprit. I can't remember the diagnosis, but you may be able to locate it with a search.

generally in this case i would expect that as there is no air in the tank (because it is full of petrol) i would look at either a damaged petrol cap or a blockage in the evap system, this effects the 850's in particular.....
i am unsure as never having a 70 but the system should be sealed so if you were to replace the filler cap with a temporary one next time you fill up this may give you a clue....
further places to look would be for splits in the vacuum hose elbows, paying particular attention to the inlet manifold to pcv connections...
cheers

Another thing to try is to switch ign to positionII wait until the fuel pump stops (about 5 seconds) and then try to start the car.

Hey Jod.

Mine does this too...
I usually fuel until the second clickoff.
This is probably another symptom of knackered vac hoses innit?

out of interest do you lock your car after filling up when you go to pay? mine seems to play up if i leave it open wether refueling or not... maybe something to do with the imobiliser?

difficult to say really lee, it seems to be a common problem these days...
it may be worth investing in one of those "throw away" green plastic caps and seeing if that helps at all...
i would also check out the seal on the cap to ensure it has not worn as this may well interfere with the sealing system, in a way i cant put my finger on at the moment but i will give it some thought...
cheers

Thanks everyone for your reply's, sorry its taken so long to get back, its been a manic 2007 with a baby girl, 4 year old girl, work, 3 dogs, 2 cats and a wife.

My v70 still does this but it is something I have gotton used to, but at the next fill up i shall investigate the filler cap idea and report back to you all, I promise it won't take six months to do this time
